First of all, I call myself dj-submerge and I belong to the Jungleraiders [1] Crew.
I was born in Switzerland where I also grew up most of my childhood.
I have got one younger brother and younger sister, and since July 13th, this year, my girlfriend and I are blessed by our little daugther, Arwen Lea.
When did you start playing breakbeat / jungle / dnb etcetera? How long is it since you begun DJing in the past?
Hmmm, I know I have bought my first dnb vinyl around 1995. But I really started spinning dnb around three to four years later. Before that time my collection was filled with progressive / trance stuff :].
How did you 'learnt' DJing, and in which space of time you acquired what is absolutely necessary respectively?
Basically: Learning by doing! DJing is all about practice, even now after approximately ten [10] years I am still learning more and more.
For what reason[s] you decided doing so? Did there have been special influences, habits, ability, affinities, further reasons?
I have started DJing as I organized several parties during my school time. We also founded a 'Youth Club' where we held weekly based parties.
I found to dnb through DeeJay MF, one of the most respected Swiss DJs. I went to his record shop and after a couple of hours I left it with a number of dnb vinyls and the intention of spinning dnb from now on.
By whom did you mostly have been influenced by?
Difficult to tell; musically definitely by Rawthang, Teebee and Muffler, but I also was mostly influencend by VCA who in the majority organized the dnb parties here in Bern and Fribourg [2].
Where has been your first DJ appearance? Are there other alias ahead 'Submerge Junior United'?
Non-dnb specific, probably at my own parties I have organized between 1993 - 2002. A friend and I also formed an electronic live act called 'Cryogenic' with which we performed 2-3 times.
How do you describe your own sound / the sound that you produce?
Nothing released yet. But i am definitely going towards dark, rolling d'n'b influenced by Muffler, Teebee, Noisia and Raiden.
What is about your work in the studio?
Unfortunatly, I can not spend a lot of time in the studio; besides my other activities and my little daugther deserve most of my spare time.
Please, tell us also something about your equipment concerning producing and DJing as well. Which products are the elating ones?
DJing:
.: Final Scratch 1.5 [with positive but also a couple of negative experiences ..]

What time do you approximately spend everyday producing new [loony]
tunes? So far, which of your tracks compromised the longest production period till now?
As I said before, I can not spend a lot of time at the moment into producing, but I am always playing a bit around.
Which pathway do you mostly like and do you mostly perform during your gigs: Vinyl, CD, MP3, Final Scratch or other Live Sessions?
I love the Vinyl handling stuff, therefore I switch to Final Scratch to have both the latest track that is not already available on vinyl yet and the same handling.
What, from your point of view, must absolutely be kept in mind by a disc-jockey, especially by a newcomer? Something to be noted as regular for a good carrier? Did you undertook this steps too or are they just the logical and theoretical evolution of your dj carrier?
You have to keep in mind that you, beeing on stage, you are not mixing for yourself but for a crowd which wants to be entertained.
Please, tell me a little bit more about your 'carreer paths' in DJ biz.
.: Started in the 1990 by spinning electronic music and organizing parties
.: Had a break from 1996-1998 and then started with d'n'b
.: Since 2000 spinning regulary at private parties
.: Since 2003 member of jungleraiders.ch
.: Around 2004 playing regulary @ the Dachstock Bern and Fri-son Fribourg
What do you mostly like practicing turntableism?
I am simply music addicted; I love it when a tune really makes the crowd going crazy.
What is about updating your equipment and repertoire?
Heh! I would love to, but having a little baby is not really cheap ;]. Well I have got everything I need, therefore I do not need any new equipment. Of course, I still spend a considerable amount of money each month for new tunes :].
Which of your tracks makes you mostly happy with? Why?
I think Muffler - Embrace. I have got a lot of personal memories with this track... it is simply a masterpiece of art!
What can people expect from your sets?
Dark rolling d'n'b mixed with a flavor of intelligent / liquid :].
What is your favorite tune at the moment?
There are couples of them.. but just to name a few: Muffler - 'Doomed', Teebee - 'The Force' and Pendulum - 'Still Gray'.
What is your favorite venue worldwide? Are there any special things to be mentionned with regard to this location or party manner usual in this land?
I really like the 'Dachstock'. It has a simple ambience, a really good sound system [important :]] and a crowd which is great!
Which of your performances in 2oo5 was the best in your opinion?
The 'Burnout' in Karlsruhe really was great [although I had massive technical problems.. .one of those f*ç"@!! Final Scratching Days]. Otherwise, the Future Prophecy's Gig @ Dachstock also was brilliant.

What is your favorite label at the moment and why?
There are so many good one's that I do not really have a favorite one.
Which DJs would you directly book to play if you had control both of a radio station and a tv broadcast for one day? Reasons why?
again :]
.: Muffler
.: Noisia
.: Teebee
because I am really addicted to their sound, and Raiden because he is just an marvelous guy producing fabulous sound!!
How would you describe nowadays development of the music sector in general as well as by means of the internet? What is about the scene?
With tools like Reason, Traktor as others, it became really easy to produce average electronic music. The disadvantage is, that a lot of the new tracks sound very similar. Summarized, there are excellent tools but you still need your own creative mind & work to evolve good music. Internet is an ideal platform to share music, experiences and to keep in touch with friends. I will also expect that DJing will move more and more away from the good old vinyl towards final scratch [or a similiar system] and compact discs.
There are many websites not known by people. Which ones are interesting to be visited?
www.jungraiders.ch
www.atmospheric-dnb.de
www.redeyerecords.co.uk
www.beatport.com
Please, what are your future aims in detail, and did you made any plans yet to reach them exactly and just in time?
At the moment, I am focused on being a good father. Musically treated: most on spinning, and if possible to produce some final tracks until the end of this year.
Are there any other projects you are working for at the moment: Movies / TV / PRs / Labels / Weekly Happenings and so on?
Actively playing Volleyball three times a week, and I am vice-president of the Bern Linux User Group [3].
So, there is a lot that happens in my spare time ...
What is your manner to relax from stressful weekly programs, week-ends or tours?
Go outside walk around with my Ipod and listening to some good music, or do something with my girlfriend and our baby.
How to combine privat and working life?
There is definitely not enough time.. but somehow, you have to arrange it so that it fits [sometimes by reducing your original goals].
What about the so-called 'DJ License' that has been enacted by the two institutes BVD and TKK this year in Germany? It is about handling with protective regulations subject to § 823 I BGB. Did you already made any workshops to achieve this license? To this day, did there have been some clubs asking you for this certificate?
Never heard about it, and I do not see any sense doing so.
How do you like the D&B vibe over here in Germany?
I had the opportunity twice DJing at the 'Unifest' in Karlsruhe and it was great, the crowd was really amazing. I think Germany has a really good dnb scene, also some really good producers [Simon V, ...].
