1. First of all, please, tell us something about yourself. What should we imagine when we think about Prolix as a person?

I am very tall -6'7 to be precise- and 'Prolix' literally means 'extending to great length'. I thought it was appropriate at the time of deciding on a artist name!

2. How did you get acquainted with producing?

I had some friends who were into computer music. They did not all write dnb but I spent time with them all learning some stuff about sequencing and sampling as well as synthesis etcetera. We wrote lots of crap tunes but it is all part of the learning process, plus it was great fun.

3. It seems as if you often do not play live. That is right? Do you really prefer producing instead of spinning live in clubs?

It is true. I started out as a producer. I was not too interested in djing to be honest, it is only now that I am being asked to play shows that I am getting more into it. When I was younger, I wanted to be a rock star! I play guitar and drums, and I have played in a few bands, and that is what I really wanted to do. Djing certainly was not something I ever thought I would do.

4. What about Ganja-Tek? All your new tracks seem to be released on this label. Is it an exclusive contract or will there also be releases by means of other labels in the near future?

I signed a twelve tunes exclusive contract with Hype and Pascal. I have had two singles out now, and a third is ready to go. I also have stuff which I am constantly working on [when im not at work!], so I am over half way through now. Some people think "signing exclusive" is a bad idea but this deal has so far been excellent for me, and having people like Hype and Pascal running the business can only be a good thing. Once the contract is up, I do not know what will happen. Perhaps I will do stuff for other lables but I do not think about that at the moment.

5. What will be your next releases on vinyl?

The next release will be Grind / Ice Cold. Grind is a real dance floor oriented tune, a tune which some have said almost sounds like a chase scene from a comic book! While Ice Cold is more of a 'neuro' type tune.

6. Asking your opinion: What has been your biggest tune up to date?

Sales wise, probably 'Exile'. Although, I get a lot of people telling me how much they like 'Crater' which I wrote with Nocturnal, and also 'Vacuum' which I did with EBK.

7. Do you always produce for yourself or did you as well become a leading spirit in co-operations with friends and quite a few co-operative producers?

I mainly produce by myself but collabs have a lot of benefits. Doing tunes with others and bouncing ideas arround can lead to some great results, as well as being able to spur each other onto things we might not be capable of alone. Having someone next to you saying 'thats shit get rid of it' or 'thats wicked, now keep it and move on' is often really helpful.

8. How would you describe your style of music?

Definitely on the darker side of drum and bass. Techy, I suppose, but not techno, neuro but not really minimal, sometimes using liquid type fx but not the drums, jumpup without the clownstep!

9. What do you think about the evolution of vinyl versus CDs versus MP3? What kind of media do you favour above all?

I have learnt to DJ with both vinyl and CD but for me CD is a much easier format to use especially if I write a new song I want to play, or people send me tunes I want to play. It is really a bit of a vicious circle because MP3s mean your music goes out to more people, but it also means less people buy the vinyl ... .

10. What do you think about the often so-called classification of Drum and Bass into genres like Liquid, Neurofunk, Jump Up, Techstep or even "Clownstep"?

I think people are always going to try to classify drum and bass into genres, and fair enough if they want to. I think there is certainly room for a few catagories but remember: to people outside drums and bass, it all sounds the same!

11. What are your current plans for the near future? Are there any concepts you would like to tell us about?

I think about using my guitar a bit more in my tracks. I have played since I was 16 and am sort of itching to get some Pantera style riffs in my tunes! I just have to work out the right way to go about it. I have heard a few dnb tracks with guitars in them and some are ok and some are not great. I think there really needs to be a fine balance between the elements otherwise it could easily sound shit.

12. It is Top 5 Drum and Bass Time now: List your today's personal Top 5, please!

(in no particular order)

1: State of mind & Chris SU - Surreality
2: Plan B - No Good [Chase and Status Remix]
3: Dom n Roland : Punnish Me 2007
4: Calyx and Teebee - Enygma
5: Prolix - Grind

13. Finally anything you would like to tell our readers besides?
